WORK WITH COLLEAGUES TO REDUCE YOUR WORKPLACE EMISSIONS IN LINE WITH SCIENCE.
The Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) provides a clear path for companies to reduce emissions in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement to avoid catastrophic heating, based on the latest climate science.
To meet Science-Based Targets, more specifically the Science-Based Corporate Net-Zero Standard, you’ll need ambitious near-term targets, like roughly cutting direct and indirect value-chain emissions in half before 2030. You also need long-term targets to cut all possible emissions (usually more than 90%) by 2050; use permanent carbon removal for neutralizing any remaining emissions after cutting more than 90%; and make investments now to reduce and remove emissions beyond your own value chains.
Once the targets are in place, you’ll need to take actions to meet those targets in practice.
Leadership can come from the bottom up as well as the top down. If you’re not yet part of climate action at your workplace, get together with colleagues to start pushing for these policies. Join your company’s employee-led climate team (or start one, if there isn’t one already!) and connect with your sustainability team, if there is one, to push for science-based emissions reductions.Commit today and get started setting your company target from SBTi!
