DONATE TO CLIMATE CHARITIES.
It’s important to find good groups to support, but don’t get bogged down with analysis paralysis. There are resources out there to assess the effectiveness of charities, like Giving Green, and make sure they’re in good standing using a tool like Charity Navigator. Look for charities that align with your values and your theory of change. But it’s better to start making a monthly donation today rather than putting off donating to some hypothetical future date when you’ll have perfect information.
Small and local groups can probably benefit the most from your hard-earned dollars. Look for homegrown groups nearby. For some inspiration, check out the Drawdown’s Neighborhood video series, which features community organizations across the United States working on climate solutions at a local level.
Remember, you’re trying to increase the good you can do in the world and work for effective system change – not necessarily maximize a return on investment. Some of the most effective groups are working on cultural and political change in ways that are hard to quantify but essential.
Set up a monthly donation and remember to look into possibilities for your employer to match donations, and be aware of tax benefits for donations.
