TAKE COLLECTIVE CLIMATE ACTION AND ADVOCATE IN YOUR PROFESSIONAL FIELD.

Work for climate action and policy within your industry association, trade group, professional society, or union.

Bringing your whole industry with you towards zero emissions is a powerful lever! Ultimately, aim for clear Science-Based Targets and standards across your whole industry.

It will take leadership (someone has to go first!) to demonstrate it’s possible. To avoid greenwashing and focus on real action, make sure your industry is reducing absolute emissions year over year.

A good place to start: find out what professional associations your organization is a member of. A company-wide audit of all its association memberships is a great starting point. If a professional association is actively obstructing climate action, work with leadership to push the association to align, or even consider leaving if it does not take climate action seriously.

Push your professional or trade associations to align with Science-Based Targets. Check out sector guidance from the Science-Based Targets initiative. Bring up these benchmarks at your next board meeting or professional conference.

Support strong industry standards and regulations for renewable energy, energy efficiency, and performance standards, which have proven effective at emissions reductions globally and in the European Union.
